I have listened to a few of Cardeno C’s audio books, but this is the first one by this narrator. I have to admit that as I first listened to this narrator, I didn’t like his voice….. however, I left it for a few days and then went back and tried again – and wow this time his voice totally drew me into the story. He had a sort of mesmerising quality to it, and I was annoyed when I had to stop at any time! I also have to say his voice would also send shivers down me as he had a husky side to his voice whenever there was an intimate scene. I have listened to this audio more than once, just to hear the huskiness again!
Story:
Wow is my first word for this story! This story is two men, who come from vastly different home lives. Trevor came out when he was eighteen, and his family supported him wholeheartedly. However, Ford is not sure what his family would think, due to their strict religious upbringing, so therefore he has been hiding this side of himself away from everybody. From the story, you can tell he yearns to have someone special in his life, but due to his upbringing he is so afraid or rather terrified of what would happen if he ever told people he was gay.
When they first meet, Ford has no idea it is Trevor that he met in the bar, and is totally terrified when he finally realises who he is with. Their political backgrounds did not bode well for a relationship. The two men meet as often as they can, and their time together is what keeps them both sane. Whenever they were together, both found all the trials and tribulations of lives disappear just from their greeting hugs. All seemed to be going well, even though they had to be so careful not to be seen together at any time, and their time together was sometimes very short. There were also the odd occasions where it was almost a month before they saw each other, but they did make sure they spoke to each other frequently.
When they have been together for seven months, things really come to a head. Trevor grows very jealous of all the women that are seen with Ford, especially when they were referred to as a girlfriend or even fiancée. Both men said things they shouldn’t to each other on the subsequent phone call, and when they rung off, and then thinking after, Trevor realises that the reason he is so jealous is because he is totally, head over heels, in love with Ford. Trevor goes to Ford to try and talk things through, and Ford confesses to Trevor that he loves him too. Although he is now being groomed to run for the senate, Ford had already decided that he could not live like this anymore, there is no contest between Trevor and his political career, he loved Trevor would no longer hide who he was and who he loved.
The way that Cardeno C wrote this story, kept me intrigued. I loved both of the MC’s, for very different reasons. Trevor was so sure of himself, he was comfortable with who he was and did not worry about how people thought of him. He was successful and this showed in everything he did, but he was also so in tune with Ford, and his feelings. Ford, although being in politics was sure of who he was, but kept his being gay hidden away. I think this is also due to his religious family, as they saw his being gay as being a sin. I really did feel for Ford, he just didn’t want to disappoint his family, but until he found Trevor there was no reason for him to change things.
I really did love this audio, and I would recommend it highly. Although I had a problem the first time I started listening (that was more down to me than the actual audio), when I tried the second time I was totally hooked. I look forward to seeing more on audio not only from Cardeno C, but also from Ron Herczig
