I have to say, I have not disliked a main character for a while, but I totally disliked Hugh at the beginning of the book. To me, it was like he didn’t care about his Siphon, in essence his Siphon was not even a person and was just invisible. The Siphon was given to Hugh more or less as a vessel to carry the excess force that Hugh could not contain. Although he had been there for 10 years, Hugh had never spoken to the Siphon, and as he didn’t, this meant that nobody else in the pack spoke to the Siphon either.
As soon as it was realised that there was a Siphon born – they were always born with blue eyes, he was taken away from his mother, he wasn’t given a name, just protected until he was old enough to be given to a Premier. Even when he was given to the Premier, he still wasn’t given a name, just continually called The Siphon, and was Hugh’s constant companion. Wherever Hugh went, the Siphon had to follow – no matter where he went.
When The Siphon could take no more, and tried to do something about it, this causes Hugh’s life to be in danger. Hugh then decides that the Siphon cannot be let out of his sight, and then this in turn makes Hugh talk to The Siphon, and as he starts speaking to him, he realises how badly he had been treating him. One particular talk together, The Siphon asked Hugh why he had never gave him a name…… and thus he was then named Johnnie.
As they begin to spend time together, Hugh realises that there is more to Johnnie than what he realised. Hugh and Johnnie become closer, and for some reason, this causes their connection to get stronger, but neither know why. Johnnie has no idea of what the feelings are deep inside, as he has never been shown any love or affection, but also in that way, Hugh too is confused about what he feels inside.
This book was the journey of the Premier and the Siphon, learning about each other, learning what they were feeling deep inside, how much they mean to each other…… even more so when it becomes clear that somebody is determined to take Johnnie away from Hugh….. but Hugh’s reaction to this shocks Johnnie, but also Hugh himself is not sure why he is reacting like he is.
I loved the way the author wrote about Hugh and Johnnie learning together, about what love actually means, and what difference it made to their connection and their lives. By this point, Hugh has changed what he is like, and he finally sees Johnnie as a person, a handsome man.

I have listened to other audiobooks, but this is the first book that I have listened to that Greg Tremblay has narrated, but not the first Cardeno C audiobook. I can say that it won’t be the last audiobook I will listen to narrated by him.
I am in awe of how he uses different voices for the characters (and keeps it the same all the way though), and also how he manages to show all emotion and feelings that the characters are feeling, that came through loud and clear listening to him. I could honestly sit and listen to his voice all day, he draws you into the story and you don’t want to stop listening.

1) I actually studied acting in college, along with opera; but got a degree in Computer Science.
2) My recording booth itself is only 3’ x 5’ x 6’ . . . so when I read MM romance, I go INTO the closet. Ironic, no?
3) It takes between 5 and 7 hours of total production time with the finished manuscript to create 1 hour of final audio. Fiction Audio reads at about 9800 words per hour.
4) In addition to voice acting, I have been a Whale Watching guide, a Paramedic, and a Farrier (shoeing horses)
5) I rarely, if ever, listen to a complete book again once the production is finished. By the time I am done, I’ve read the book to myself, read it aloud, and listened to it for editing… and I’m on to the next story.
6) Anguish is the easiest emotion for me to portray, because a well-written script pulls you in, and it’s a completely one-person emotion – but it’s draining. I have cried in the booth more than a few times. Comic passages are the trickiest, because the proper timing and reaction between characters are essential.
7) I drink an average of 1.5 liters of water per hour, while recording. Average recording sessions are 2-4 hours long between breaks.
8) As a kid, I lived with my family on a sailboat for a year.
9) My personal record for most distinct voices in a single book is 73
10) Coffee, Dairy and Alcohol are all bad for the voice. . . which means I have to moderate some of life’s greatest pleasures. (not eliminate tho, I’m not crazy)

Cardeno C. - CC to friends - is a hopeless romantic who wants to add a lot of happiness and a few "awwws" into a reader's day. Writing is a nice break from real life as a corporate type and volunteer work with gay rights organizations. Cardeno's stories range from sweet to intense, contemporary to paranormal, long to short, but they always include strong relationships and walks into the happily-ever-after sunset.
