When Joe Morrissey returns home, heartsick and traumatized by his latest mission, the last thing he expects is to find his partner and lover, Brian Finnegan, has fallen for someone else. Even though Joe knows Finn has never been a one-man man, he has difficulty accepting Drew Martin's place in Finn's life -- and especially in his heart. But when Finn is kidnapped by criminals seeking revenge on Joe, he's forced to pair up with his rival to make sure Finn is kept safe. Joe has no choice but to face his deepest issues, not only about Drew, but also about his own past that has come back to haunt him. Doubt and pain are tearing Joe apart... Can Drew help put him back together, or does Finn risk losing both of the men he loves forever?
Trigger warnings: This book deals with PTSD and human trafficking. There are mentions of sexual and physical abuse, kidnapping, and child abuse (NOT GRAPHICALLY DEPICTED).
When we first meet Joe and Finn, they are together with as friends with benefits, although both of them feel more, but although Joe does want more with Finn, he is terrified of losing him totally.
Joe has to go away on assignment, and while away, Finn meets the new man with Herc's Mercs - Drew, and there is instant attraction between them, which also seems to confuse Finn as he knows he loves Joe, but he is starting to get feelings for Drew the more time they spend together. Drew is also starting to fall in love with Finn, but what will they do when Joe returns?
When Joe returns, he is not the same man who went away on the assignment. He is hurting deep inside, and when he finds out that Finn and Drew are together, he is sure that Finn will leave him, but nothing is further from the truth, Finn actually wants to be with both Joe and Drew.
Before anything can really be talked about, Finn is kidnapped but is rescued by Joe and Drew, but not before he was tortured. While he is recovering in the hospital, Joe decides he must go and find the man who had held Finn and find out who sent him. This in turn leads him back to somewhere he doesn't want to go, but he must to ensure that Finn is safe.
Drew is actually drawn to Joe too, he can totally understand Finns attraction to him, and when Joe leaves to keep Finn safe, Drew goes with him, well aware that Joe doesn't actually like him. However, things do not go smoothly, and it takes both Joe and Drew to complete the mission to keep Finn safe. After everything is over, Joe is in a bad way, and there is only Drew around to help, him, but is he able to do anything?.......
I really did enjoy reading this book, it kept me gripped from start to finish, and I was really willing Joe, Finn and Drew to work things out together. I actually hope that there is a book in the future that also includes them too.
Arionrhod is a systems engineer by day who is eagerly looking forward to (hopefully) becoming a full time writer in the not-too-distant future. Now that she is an empty-nester, she has turned her attentions to finding the perfect piece of land to build a fortress in preparation for the zombie apocalypse, and baking (and eating) far too many cakes.
McKay is an English teacher who has been writing for one reason or another most of her life. She also enjoys knitting, reading, cooking, and playing video games. She has been known to knit in public. Given she has the survival skills of a gnat, she’s relying on Arionrhod to help her survive the zombie apocalypse.
