Love.
Dr. Cayson Chauncey has been wildly attracted to the big, tattooed hunter for almost a year, ever since he performed the surgery that saved Quick’s best friend’s life. Cayson must’ve mistaken Quick’s gratitude for something more, because the one time he tried to make his desires known, he was harshly rebuffed and left on the man’s doorstep feeling stupid for hitting on an obviously very straight man.
Cayson never dated a man who was willing to come out of hiding and be with him. Now at almost forty, Cayson is intent on no longer being anyone’s dirty secret. Having experienced countless disappointments, and having taken a stand not to fall for any more tricks, Cayson is more than a little skeptical when Quick comes around asking for a second chance to prove himself. The gorgeous man had already made it clear that he was not interested in Cayson… or so he’d thought.
Dr. Chauncey stirred up Quick’s suppressed, most carnal desires from a place deep down inside of him. He’d reacted so badly the first time that now his sexy surgeon wanted nothing to do with him. It was going to take a fair amount of patience and a whole lot of wooing involved as Quick sets out to convince Cayson that he’s worth another chance and that he is the brave lover who Cayson has been looking for.
With a scorned ex and a very dangerous job thrown into the mix, Cayson’s happiness and all of Quick’s promises may not be as easy to keep as they’d hoped.
Roman to me, was someone very confused. He would admit that he had feelings for Cayson, but he definitely didn't want to act on them. In some ways it was like he thought he was wrong to have these feelings for Cayson, especially as he had been married to a woman and had a son. However, when he was in his teens, he had considered himself as being bi-sexual, but he soon suppressed this side of himself once he was married.
Cayson had already had his advances to Roman rebuffed previously, and so when he goes to Romans house to check Roman is ok after getting hurt while on a job, he is unsure of himself. When Cayson arrives, Roman has just got out of the shower and was only dressed in lounge pants, and much to his embarrassment Cayson was getting aroused by being around Roman. Then he realised that Roman was also getting aroused, but couldn’t understand why, especially with what Roman had said to him before. After checking him, Cayson can’t help but keep looking, while trying to hide his arousal. However when Roman utters the words “You like?” Cayson is understandably angry, and rushes out of the Romans house.
Now Roman is confused, as he realises that he does have feelings for Cayson, but has no idea what to do. In desperation, he rings his best friend Duke to see what he should do, and then begins to try and woo Cayson, which seems to be sort of working, until an ex-boyfriend of Cayson’s comes back on the scene. Now Roman has a fight on his hands if he really wants a chance with Cayson.
Will Cayson accept all of Rome including the darker side he keeps hidden? Has Roman managed to convince Cayson that he is special, or does Cayson still feel as unlovable as he did prior to Roman? What lengths will his ex-boyfriend go to, to try and win him back?
I loved this book more than the first one, especially Cayson. He may be a successful and well liked doctor, but his private life is totally different. To me he was so starved of love, that anyone who showed him any affection he grabbed at with both hands…. Hence how he got himself involved with Joe. Roman had redeemed himself in my eyes by the end of the book, as his natural caring side came out whenever he was with Cayson. I hope that this is not the end of the series, and we see more of Roman and Cayson as well as the rest of the team in future books. I especially would love to read Brian’s story.
