Interview
I want to welcome Kindle Alexander to my blog today and this is long overdue. I met Kindle online (October 2013) as we haven't met in person yet but I will be knocking on your Texas door one day. Living in Canada I have always tried to purchase M/M-Gay Novels but very hard to find so one day I broke down and decided to join the world of ereaders. I was looking for some novels and accidentally, I noticed a genre of M/M and thought, what the heck is that and researched it and BAM BAM I was in the world of gay characters. The very first book that popped up on my ereader was Texas Pride and of course I purchased it instantly as I was in heaven, finally reading a gay novel. So I instantly had to google the author and I was so amazed at Kindle's openness on her site about her daughter that I decided to email her.  I never thought I would hear back from the author and low and behold she responded and we had the most open, honest and fun conversation I have ever had. She would introduce me to the most amazing people that I could ever know. Kindle is the reason why I started this blog as she knew I wanted to continue to review and she kept pushing me to start a blog and wouldn't give up and I truly love her for it! Kindle you mean the world to me and I am so lucky to have found you as you've made my life better for knowing you! You are a brilliant author, beautiful soul and the most amazing friend and I can truly so.......I love Kindle Alexeander Forever!!!!!

****If you have not read all 5 of Kindle Alexanders novels then you MUST now as they are simply amazing!!!!!

1) Welcome to Gay Media Reviews! Who is Kindle ?

Your best friend. Duh! Kindle Alexander is a writing team of two people.

2) What made you want to write M/M novels?

Well, the true answer is people like you, Paul Berry. I read a book with a gay man and all I could think was where has this been all my life? It took a little bit longer to find more gay fiction work. When I did, I was hooked. For a life long romance reader, finding gay fiction altered my life. It's change me forever.

3) I have noticed that 90% of the M/M readers are female! What do you think attracts them to this hot genre?

This is a hot topic issue right now. I've heard many different reasons, but I think the best one is honestly, we are mothers, daughters, sisters. We raise our families and we see things aren't cut and dry like we've been taught. It opens our eyes to the possibility. That's what pushes us to read outside of the box.

4) You are one of the most successful M/M authors of your time! What separates you from other authors in this genre who aren't as successful? So basically what's your secret?

I don't know how to answer this... We write contemporary romance. I don't know about one of the most successful authors. There is a long line of authors who paved this road. I can say, for us, no publisher wanted our work and the ones that did turned out shady and very slow. Per the ones who didnt want us, we dont write what the gay fiction reader wants, and it's just not interesting enough. So if we have a secret, that's it - go against the grain... I dont know, Paul Berry! This question is too hard!

We've been very blessed and lucky, but its because of people like you. That's the honest answer.

5) Tell us about your writing partner and how has that collaboration been?

She is one of the most important relationships to me. I love her, she's a very dear friend - we write gay male sex together. How many people can you say do that with you? We've been friends for a long time. We are very different people, but then not really... When it comes down to decisions, we are generally from the same train of thought.

6) You write about the most fascinating characters in your books! How do you come up with these amazing guys and stories?

Def from guys like you. Hands down, finally answer.

7) How do you relax between work, writing, motherhood and wife?

    Relax? Bahahahahahaaha.

8) Tell us how you and your writing partner came up with the name KINDLE ALEXANDER?

Well Kindle comes from my daughter - her name was Kindle. Alexander came from... Okay, step back further. Once we started reading gay fiction I realized if I could have a redo, I'd have Kindle come back to two gay men as parents. Swear! Because that cant just happen. There are no accidents. If gay men want a child, it has to be planned. It seems like if a man gets that far in the steps, he'd probably do what it takes to be a good father... That thought became our very first short story. And from there, it became a book....that no one has ever seen. They are the Alexander's. When we first thought about writing, we thought that's what we would write. Kindle Alexander was the daughter of two gay men. I dont think I've shared that story before.

9) What is the biggest misconception about you?

We've been accused of buying reviews. We've never, ever done anything like that - ever. First, it's morally wrong to dupe the reader by putting up fake reviews (either good or bad ones) and second, it's a stupid way for any author to spend their promotional dollars.

10) How have you survived in such a cut throat industry and what's the key to your longevity?

I'm not sure we have longevity yet, but the key is to find mentors. For us, people like Sara York, Nicole Edwards, Lauren Blakley - they all help keep us from being too overwhelmed. We werent prepared for the extent of how cut throat this industry can be - it's a little much. Those three have definitely saved the day on more than one occasion. The other equally important mentors have come from bloggers. You guys are amazing. You know everything. Keep everything quiet, yet lend that hand when needed.

11) Being a gay man who reads lots of M/M novels, I have noticed that you completely get the gay sex scenes, spot on. How do you research this to make sure that your true to the gay life and sex scenes?

Are you lying? Do we really? DONT LIE PAUL BERRY!

12) What do you want to be remembered for most?

I'm afraid its the one thing that people dont see. That sucks.

13) Do you have a Philosophy by which you live?

Laughter is the best medicine. When your down, seek laughter - it will heal your heart. And chocolate.

14) What advice would you give to someone whose trying to start out writing in this genre?

Find a solid mentor that you believe in them as people, as well as their writing. That's critical. It sucks to find out your mentor and favorite author sucks as a person.

15) I have heard and seen personally that you are amazing to your readers/fans! What do they mean to you?

For me, I dont have fans. That's odd and weird for me to consider having fans. For me, I have friends. These friendships mean everything to me. I cant stress that enough. I've met incredibly great readers. I love that part. I'm a reader. Even the most basic conversations end up with us trading story ideas. This number 15 question is honestly one of the top reasons we do this. Its great fun to meet people who read what you read. You and I have talked about this. I've never met you, Paul Berry, but you're incredibly important to me and dear to my heart.

16) What is your favourite curse word?

Dang... My writing partner throws out the F-bomb about every other word.

17) What was the last book you read and your thoughts on it?

Julie James and wait before you roll your eyes. She has a gay character that I understand might being getting a story. That caused me to go back in history and find him. Now she needs to write that story. I've got Nicola Haken's new book loaded. I've got Piper Kay's new book loaded. Both I'm excited about. And Sara York's new series will be awesome. I was chatting with her and she said she was writing another in her Colorado series. OMG! I didnt fangirl right there, but I need to offer to BETA read for her...

18) When was the last time you told someone you love them and to whom and why?

My husband, like 5 minutes ago, because he said it first and its the right thing to do.... And I kissed him on the lips. Ewww, girl/boy kisses. Who wants to see that?

19) If you could come back as any animal or mammal, what would it be and why?

I want to come back as Kitt Kelly's horse - Hooch. I think that animals gonna have a really good life.

20) Lastly, any hints on your next book that you might be working on?
Mitch is bad, Paul Berry. I've never experienced anything like him. He's taken way long to write. He wont stop moving around, changing ideas. He's bad.

Paul, thank you for letting me be here today. I love you. I'm so glad you are doing so well with this awesome site. You deserve the best. Thank you.  <3!

PS: Paul! Texas Pride got 3rd place in Romance, 3rd place in Gay fiction and The Current Between Us got 1st! place in Gay Fiction from the Elit awards!

(Paul) that is amazing news but I am not surprised Kindle as they are amazing READS!!!!!

About Me Best Selling, and newly award winning (whooo hooo!) Author Kindle Alexander is an innovative writer, and a genre-crosser who writes classic fantasy, romance, suspense, and erotica. It’s always a surprise to see what’s coming next! Happily married with too many children, and dogs, living in the suburbs of Dallas.

Usually, I try for funny. Humor is a major part of my life – I love to laugh, and it seems to be the thing I do in most situations – regardless of the situation, but jokes are a tricky deal… I don’t want to offend anyone and jokes tend to offend. So instead I’m going to tell you about Kindle.

I tragically lost my sixteen year old daughter to a drunk driver. She had just been at home, it was early in the night and I heard the accident happen. I’ll never forget that moment. The sirens were immediate and something inside me just knew. I left my house, drove straight to the accident on nothing more than instinct. I got to be there when my little girl died – weirdly, I consider that a true gift from above. She didn’t have to be alone.

That time in my life was terrible. It’s everything you think it would be times about a billion. I love that kid. I loved being her mother and I loved watching her grow into this incredibly beautiful person, both inside and out. She was such a gift to me. To have it all ripped away so suddenly broke me.

Her name was Kindle. Honest to goodness – it was her name and she died a few weeks before Amazon released their brand new Kindle ereader. She had no idea it was coming out and she would have finally gotten her name on something! Try finding a ruler with the name Kindle on it.. it never happened.

Through the course of that crippling event I was lucky enough to meet my writing partner. I would have never gotten through those dark days without her unwavering support and guidance. There wasn’t a time she wasn’t there for me. For the first time I used the hand offered. I know without question I wouldn’t be here today without her. It takes a special person to come stand beside someone at a time like that. I will love her forever. I could go on and on about both of them, but I won’t and now you know a little more About Me.

I absolutely loved this interview/blog post. Awesome questions and answers both. When you brought up fangirl and BETA read, for Sara, in the same sentence, I lost it. I vaguely recall taking part in a similar situation. Vaguely I said-HA! Right. I have to say that this post was so exciting for me when I saw it pop up on fb a few minutes ago. Two of my very favorite people in the same spot. Paul, I adore you and everything you are about. and Kindle, I just want to hug you for not spamming my ass when I first read Double Full. bwahahaaha! (I so cursed at her, well the character, in a pm-lol) Her answer then is about what it is now. "Just keep reading" and now it's "just keep writing" that's all it takes when it comes from a mentor. ~hugs~!

It's been a while since I consider myself a "virgin" reading M/M books, but I confess that I began to really like the genre since I read Kindle's books. The first book I read was The Current ... and I loved the characters. Then I read Texas Pride, and during reading I was nervous about how it would end. When I read ALWAYS I knew it would be good, but, WOW! It was great!
I think it's horrible the fact of publishers ignore this genre and most of the authors have to be "indie". Unfortunately prejudice still rules the publishing world.
I have no Kindle's printed book, but this is my aim. Having the complete collection of her books.
Paul, I loved the interview. The questions were excellent.
Kindle, you're an enlightened person. You have suffered in life, but still, you conveys an aura of good vibes (saw it in the photos).
Thanks for sharing these wonderful characters with your readers/ friends.

It left me with a question, how do two women authors write such sexy and hot gay love scenes? I bet the research is fun! Thank you for the interview.

My first thought when I read your name when you befriended me was, how weird that the most famous ereader has the same name. To read your story here about your daughter has really opened my eyes to how blessed I am with all my family and friends happy and healthy. I really loved this interview. I have been reading m/m books for about two years now and I am surprised at myself and my own fascination with this genre. I have been reading love novels since I was a teenager. I have always thought of myself as open minded but when I got married and the chance of having a child who would be attracted to its own sex was actually more prominent than before I started to actively look into the matter of homosexuality and gender identity. Thanks to the invention of internet and to a more and more public awareness I have found many who share my believe that it is a person or a personality that one falls in love with, not the sex of a person. Also the immense bravery of people coming out or people who support those who are different from public oppinion is strengthening my believe that there is nothing wrong with two men or two women falling in love and loving each other. Yay to the books that reflect this love.
