Quiet, unassuming Tanner Sellers spends his time running a diner in Hope, Arizona. Not particularly social, 22-year-old Tanner keeps to himself and enjoys his simple life, but he longs for someone to call his own. In his most secret fantasy, that someone is sexy Steve Faus. But Steve is his friend's father and mentor's widower and therefore off-limits.
Despite some challenges, 39-year-old Steve Faus has had a good life. He's extremely successful at work, has a great relationship with his college-age son, and lives in a wonderful town. Eighteen months after losing his partner, the one thing Steve lacks is someone to share his life with. If Steve is honest with himself, that someone is the young man he has known and cared about for years. Steve and Tanner want one another; all they need is a little push in the right direction to make both their dreams come true.
Tanner is now the owner of a diner in Hope, Arizona, which was left to him by his mentor Jesse. He still feels guilty that he was left the diner, but tries hard to make sure that is stays a success, even using Jesse’s old recipes. Since he was 16 years old, he has secretly been in love with Jesse’s husband Steve, but obviously he kept his feelings well hidden – or so he thinks.
Steve is now alone since the death of his partner, and now he would like someone to share his life, and that someone happens to be Tanner. However, Steve will not act on what he feels, so he keeps his life as it is.
After a phone call from his best friend Mike (who happens to be Steve’s son), Tanner decides to take the diners daily special to Steve, as he believes that Steve is having problems at work, and at his best friends request is using this excuse to check on him.
I couldn’t help but smile when Tanner takes the food to Steve, as he is talking to himself, giving himself pep talks to ensure that he engages his brain before his mouth…. As he has found whenever he is arrange Steve, all rational comments just seem to desert him, and in his own words his mouth has no filter around Steve!
Now begins a very special relationship, and rather than the jump into bed, things are taken slowly, but this could also be down to a secret that Steve reveals to Tanner about himself. I actually found this really refreshing, as it was going back to dating the old fashioned way! I just loved how it was all played out, and Steve came across as extra cautious with Tanner, it was like he didn’t want to appear overzealous and frighten him away.
This is real sweet love story, not racy like other books, but it is a wonderful read none the less. I love the narrator on this too, his voice was smooth and gentle and just right for this love story. I could listen to him reading all day long! Lol
