Plagued by pain and weakness all his life, Ethan Abbatt is a wolf shifter who can't shift. Hoping to find an honorable death by joining his packmates in a vampire attack, Ethan instead learns two things: Draining his blood releases his pain and his wolf, and he has a true mate: a vampire named Miguel.
More than four centuries old, strong, powerful, and vicious, Miguel Rodriguez walks through life as a shadow, without happiness or affection. When a young shifter tells Miguel they're true mates, destined to be together, Miguel sends him away. But Ethan is persistent, and being together comes so naturally that Miguel can't resist for long. The challenge is keeping themselves alive so they can stay by each other's side until forever comes.
Ethan is a wolf shifter who cannot shift, and has always been sick. Miguel is a vampire who is over four centuries old, and he is a loner. Ethan went to the local town to with other from his pack, to hunt for vampires….. but instead Ethan realised he had found his true mate – but instead of embracing this Miguel sends Ethan away.
While in the town, Ethan gets hurt by a vampire and as his blood is released, he finds that he can shift into his wolf – the first time ever he has been able to do this. Although Miguel sent Ethan away, he cannot forget him. Ethan goes back home, but as Miguel is his true mate, he packs his clothes and goes back to find Miguel……. and at this moment things are not looking good for Miguel.
When Ethan finds Miguel, he is chained up and surrounded by other vampires who are convinced that Miguel is in blood lust as he is forever feeding. Miguel was in a rage, until he scented Ethan and then a calmness came over him. He breaks free of the chains and heads towards Ethan, and the other vampires believe that he is just about to die as shifter blood will kill them if they drink it, so leave Ethan and Miguel alone.
This is now the part of the story when you realise that they are indeed true mates. Ethan more or less collapses due to the excess blood in his body, and Miguel cannot resist drinking from him…. Ethan is terrified that he will harm Miguel and wants to stop him but can’t, but instead of harming him, Miguel feels sated and happy. It is now that Miguel realises that what they have is indeed special, although he still won’t say they are true mates.
The longer they are together, the closer they become, and working together they manage to get around any obstacles put in their way, and then Miguel begins to think there may be more to this true mates than he believed – and when his life was in the balance, Miguel realised he could survive anything as long as he had Ethan – his true mate.
I have listened to quite a few audio books now, and Charlie David is absolutely awesome on this one. I love the voices he had for Miguel and especially Ethan. If you like audio books and especially Cardeno C’s books, I cannot recommend this audio highly enough. I actually own this audio, and it is one that I have listened to five or six times now, and I never tire of listening to it – both for the story and the superb narration too.
