To win gold, figure skater Alex Grady must train harder than the competition morning, noon, and night. He’s obsessed with mastering another quadruple jump, and due to the lack of filter between his mouth and brain, doesn’t have a lot of friends. As for a boyfriend, forget it. So what if he’s still a virgin at twenty? The Olympics are only every four years—everything else can wait. Relationships are messy and complicated anyway, and he has zero room in his life for romance.

So it’s ridiculous when Alex finds himself checking out his boring new training mate Matt Savelli. Calm, collected “Captain Cardboard” is a nice guy, but even if Alex had time to date, Matt’s so not his type. Yet beneath Matt’s wholesome surface, there’s a dirty, sexy man who awakens a desire Alex has never experienced and can’t deny…

Note: This gay romance from Keira Andrews features opposites attracting, new adult angst, sexual discovery, and of course a happy ending.

This new version has been extensively rewritten, updated, and expanded into a new adult romance with explict on-page sex

I really did enjoy this book.  It is another book where I wasn't sure about one of the MC's at first - which was Alex. However, as I read on, it became clear to me that sometimes he would just say things without thinking about the words he was using.  I really did warm to him by the end of the book, and I think even felt sorry for him.

Alex has his eyes on getting to the Olympics and getting gold.  To do this, his days consist of training, training and more training.  He doesn't really have a life outside of all the training he is doing, definitely not any time for a boyfriend, plus he would need someone with a thick skin to deal with him most of the time.

When he meets Matt, he is strangely drawn to him, but doesn't want to be - but this doesn't stop the dreams and his vivid imagination while in the shower! Most of the time, he manages to ignore Matt, until one day he finds he doesn't want to.

The two men meet in secret, although to begin with it is just getting each other off, and texting - all the while training like mad..  They grow closer, but there are still a few obstacles in their way, which they will need to overcome together, if they stand any chance of having a relationship.

I have to commend the Keira Andrews on how she got the emotions across in this book.  At one stage I have to admit I was reading with tears in my eyes.  It also opened my eyes as to how much training and commitment there has to be to be successful in figure skating, and usually meaning little time for relationships.

After writing for years yet never really finding the right inspiration, Keira discovered her voice in gay romance, which has become a passion. She writes contemporary, historical, paranormal and fantasy fiction, and—although she loves delicious angst along the way—Keira firmly believes in happy endings. For as Oscar Wilde once said, “The good ended happily, and the bad unhappily. That is what fiction means.”
