Life in his sleepy hometown proves intolerable until he finds solace in a lakeside cabin with vivacious young carpenter, Max O’Dair. In the shadow of the epilepsy that periodically plagues Max, he and Jed form an unspoken bond. After a late night episode, Jed realizes how much Max means to him, and life has taught him not to waste time.
But the lines between contentment and complacency are blurred. Things left hidden resurface to tear through their world, and before they can repair the damage, death comes to call again. Faces, past and present, rally around them to weather the storm, but before long, they are left with only love.
When Jed finally returns home, he is not happy, and to be honest is still really sick with his stomach condition and also his leg injury. He is with his brother and family, but it soon becomes apparent that things are strained between them. However, he loves being around his nieces.
Jed was then told about a lakeside cabin that he could share with Max, and he went to go and see it, and after meeting Max and learning about his epilepsy, he decides to live there with him. Things are strange to begin with, but then Max and Jed begin to form a strong bond.
However, the past soon comes to collide with the present, and then it seems that the strong bond cannot withstand the fallout, but both Jed and Max are fighting to stay together. Can they work things out, or are they doomed by the past?
I could not put this book down, and I had to keep reading to see what happened to them both, as this was most definitely not a sweet little romance. I loved both the characters, and I hated when the I finished the book, as I wasn't ready to leave them.
