Moving into a new home starts with a bang when Ryan Blackwell celebrates turning thirty. Being hungover means he’s bleary-eyed and clumsy the next day, but even in that state, he can appreciate how sexy and fit his neighbour is.
Matt Thomas isn’t looking for anything long-term—one and done is usually his life rule. Why settle down early, like his sister, when casual relationships are so easy? With Ryan living in the same building, chance encounters are inevitable. When one night together becomes two, a friends-with-benefits deal seems a natural progression.
There’s only one problem: sex with no strings relies on matching expectations, so Ryan can’t help worrying. His huge heart always wants more, but Matt’s been clear about his limits. As passion leads to caring, they’ll have to make some tough decisions—maybe this time, breaking some rules will be worth it if that means they’ll get to share a future.
We meet Ryan, who was moving into his new home, on the same day that he celebrated his thirtieth birthday. He did catch a glimpse of one of his neighbours when unloading the van, but no words were spoken, but in Ryan’s mind he looked mighty fine. Not good then, that their proper initial meeting was when Ryan was hungover and so clumsy the next morning – I guess it was one way to make sure Matt didn’t forget him!!
Matt is a guy, who at first seems like he is set in his ways. To begin with, you don’t understand why he is so against long term relationships, but as you read you soon realise why, but then I am not sure that he had actually experience really being in love.
The two meet, and they have what they both agree on – a one night stand, which then becomes two, and then a friends with benefits arrangement, which seems to suit them both – or did it? It suited Matt totally, but Ryan wasn’t as sure, I think because he realised he was starting to get real deep feelings for Matt, but didn’t want to lose what they had, so kept quiet and stuck with the rules they had agreed.
However, things change when Matt has a family emergency, although he doesn’t seem to realise this at the time. It takes talking to his best friend for him to sit and think things through, and then begin to realise that he wants more with Ryan, something permanent. How can he do that though, they had an agreement between them, what would happen if Ryan didn’t want the same thing??
I am not sure if there is going to be another book following on from this, as the story leaves it wide open for the best friends of both Matt and Ryan to have a book. I really do hope so, especially if it gives the chance to see what is happening with Matt and Ryan!!
