Keeping Inferno together, though, means keeping his biggest secret. His bigoted bandmates would drop him in an instant if they found out Zac was gay.
Then he meets Adrian Frost, and Zac can't resist the shy man. Adrian gives up everything to be with Zac, but Zac can't bring himself to do the same. He doesn't want to lose Adrian, but he can't give up Inferno, either. Not when he's so close to realizing his dream.
When one cruel decision rips Adrian from his life, Zac will have to decide if ambition is worth the price of the greatest happiness he's ever known.
(Note: This story takes place in a fictional world, the same as in the Shifting Isles Series. There are multiple gods, different names for the days of the week, etc. A glossary is included.)
WARNING: Contains scenes of self-harm that may be disturbing for some readers.
Wow, what a roller-coaster ride I was on with this book, but I really loved it. I think this was partly due to the fictional world that was where this book was set, and I admit I did read the glossary! I really enjoy books set in another world.
When you first meet Zac, he comes across as a right jack the lad, but this is so not the case. He is working, trying to finish school and also plays in a band called Inferno, who are soon to make it big, but he has a couple of bigger secrets which his friends in Inferno would not like - he is gay, and he plays his violin with other friends.
Adrian I don't think, had ever been hugged, or really shown any love at all. His father is an obnoxious man, who dominates Adrian totally. Oh, he may have his own apartment, but it is paid for by his father, who will just walk in any time he wants, he constantly belittles Adrian too.
Adrian relies on his medication to be able to function when going out, and one place he does go is to watch Treble when they play at The Underground nearby. He loves the music, but he goes for really is to watch the man on the violin with the long black hair - his fantasy man.
Through school, Adrian and Zac meet, and start a sort of relationship, until the day that Adrian's father catches them together, and gives Adrian an ultimatum - he throws Zac out and goes back to how his father wants his to be, or else he can get out of the apartment. I think Zac was shocked that Adrian chose him over his father, and helps him pack his things and takes him back to his apartment.
The two somehow muddle together, but Adrian's emotions and head are all over the place, and now he has no medication left. Zac tries to get some for him, but to no avail. This begins the downward turn of their relationship, and to be honest Zac makes things even worse when he makes a couple of bad decisions - going back to his old ways.
To Adrian, this means that there is nothing really left for him to fight for, and he gives in to his inner demons, with almost dire consequences. Zac then looks at himself, and he doesn't like what he is seeing, and takes a long hard look at himself - but in the meantime, Adrian has decided to stand on his own two feet and does so, but not telling Zac what his plans are.
Now Zac has to try and find Adrian, and see if he can salvage anything from their relationship, but it will not be easy......
I really can't wait to read the next book in the series, if it is like this book, it will be hard to put down.
