"We were a unit tonight, moving as one. Even apart, we are deadly, but when combined – we are f**kin’ unstoppable." ~~ God ~~
Atlanta's notorious narcotics task force is at it again. They are stronger, bigger, and better than ever. Especially when a city councilman sends RECON Marine, Edwin Steele - who’s been blacklisted from his Oakland department - to join the team. God and Day weren't recruiting. They have a lot on their plates, like the fact they're supposed to be getting married soon. They don't have the time or the patience to integrate a decorated war hero with a slight chip on his shoulder into their well-oiled machine.
A hothead that's uncontrollable and terrible with authority… but wasn’t that their team motto?
Steele was ready to hang up his shield. He was done fighting with bigoted bastards that couldn't respect the job. He was good at fighting; he just needed the right team to fight with. When his uncle - City Councilman, Rasmus Steele - shows him a video of God's team in action, he knows right away, it's where his nephew belongs in order to restore his faith.
Steele pointed to the driver, a behemoth of a man wielding those massive firearms like a true beast… like a soldier. “And him. Who the hell is he?”
“That’s your new boss. Lieutenant Cashel Godfrey… they call him… God.”
Steele was skeptical about his new placement, but when he meets God's technology specialist/computer genius, “Tech,” he's willing to give it his all, and he definitely shows and proves.
Tech is stunning. His sweater vest and khakis, a stark contrast to the blue-jeaned roughnecks he works with. A beautiful sheep amongst the wolves. Steel thinks there's no way the brilliant man would be interested in a hardhead like him, but Tech has a few badass hidden talents of his own and manages to surprise him... surprise all of them.
This story is a part of a series but can stand alone. It does not end on a cliffhanger and has a HEA. There are no multiple pairings in this novel.
To me, Tech comes across as someone who is an integral part of the team, but who for some reason feels that he is only ever seen as the computer person. Don't get me wrong, he does enjoy what he does, and knows that the team have the upmost resspect for him, but he longs to be part of the team out on the streets. Tech is more than just a pretty face (and brain) in the department.....
Now Edwin Steele. He is a total conumdrum. He has just come from a bad situation at his previous department, and as soon as you meet him you can tell that he has a lot of anger inside him, and he is going to explode sooner or later.
Queue explosion of his anger when meeting his new team... and the poor receiver of this.... none other than Tech. A totally terrified, shocked Tech, but also someone who knows he has just made the biggest error in his career, and is mortified.
However, Steele sees something in Tech, and wants to see what it all means. It is not one sided, as Tech took one look at Steele and was rendered speechless! After his outburst, Steele regrets what he did, and approaches Tech to make amends, and slowly the two begin to get to know each other more.
Both seem totally comfortable with the other, and it seems like a sweet little romance about to bloom..... but omg, when these two get together forget sweet little Tech! Wow, has Steele met his match at last, and he loves the side of Tech he gets to see.
With all this going on, you also have the approaching wedding of God and Day - or do you?? I have to say at times I wanted to reach inside and hug Day and say just walk and don't stop. Show God what he is missing out on, and strangely, I wanted to smack God more than once for his actions.
This story shows you a side of Tech that he has kept hidden, and you also learn more about what he does in his down time. You also meet who I hope is the next character to be written - Free.
I was really sad when the book finished, as I wanted to stay with the guys for longer. However, included in this book is also a bonus short story about Genesis and Curtis.
I really can't praise this series enough. I have to confess that I have read the previous books many times before - these are more of my go to reads. I think the reason I love this series, is you see previous characters evolving and settling into their relationship, sense the closeness of the team, and meet new characters who hopefully will end up being part of the series. I sincerely hope that this series continues for the forseeable future, as I really don't want to see it end. These guys bring you everything... romance, laughter, the ups and downs of relationships, but never do you feel that they are alone.
Keep writing A.E.Via, I need the next one soon..........
